Metuchen to Compete at Raritan Valley Robot Rumble

September 2022:

Metuchen Momentum Team 7587 --- Metuchen High School’s FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team --- will compete at the inaugural Raritan Valley Robot Rumble on Saturday, October 1, and Sunday, October 2, from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm at Bridgewater Commons Mall. About 20 teams from around the region will compete against each other in matches throughout the day.

Celebrating its 5th year, Team 7587 is an award-winning robotics team with over 20 Metuchen High School students and 11 mentors. The Team’s purpose is to help create the next generation’s STEM workforce, implementing leadership skills, teamwork, and effective communications. Each spring, the team designs, builds, and fields a robot to compete in FRC District Events in the area.

Team 7587 is proud to have received several awards. Last season, the Team won the Gracious Professionalism Award for coming to the aid of a team from Newark at the Bensalem District competition, helping to build their robot and ensure their team could compete the next day. In 2019, at its debut competition at Bridgewater-Raritan High School 2019, the Team won the Highest Rookie Seed Award and the Rookie All-Star Award. The team finished 35th out of 128 at the regional championships and won the Rookie Inspiration Award. The same year, the team won the Metuchen High School STAR Award for Organization of the Year and received an Official Proclamation from the Metuchen Mayor and Council.

Community engagement and advocating for STEM are priorities for Team 7587.  The Team persuaded the Metuchen Board of Education to support a teacher stipend by regularly attending Board meetings and informing Board Members about the benefits of FIRST. The team continues participating in the Metuchen Spring Festival, Metuchen Country Fair, Metuchen METECH Symposium, and the Downtown Halloween Festival.  In addition, the Team is planning a special charity event, the details of which will be announced shortly.

Finally, Team 7587 would not be possible without the generous financial support of friends, family, and sponsors: FIRST Mid-Atlantic, Google, the Metuchen Education Foundation, Metuchen Elks Lodge #1914, Picatinny STEM, and QRST Properties.  In addition, the Team is actively seeking corporate sponsors and planning fundraisers.
